One Good Thing

What is it really like to be a refugee or asylum seeker, to leave your home in search of a better life? The Cumberland Local Government Area is home to some of the highest population of refugee and asylum seekers. Despite the many challenges people face fleeing to find safety, there are many stories of hope, resilience and kindness experienced along the way. As part of Refugee Camp in my Neighbourhood, photographer Nikki To and writer Sophie McComas have captured seven diverse community members’ unique stories following their arrival.

Get to know Khalid, Samih, Nihada, Yarrie, Mirsada, Augustino and Hedayat who all call Western Sydney home. Discover their unique stories and follow their journeys as they share one good thing that has had a monumental impact on their lives in Australia.
