Interactive tours of the Refugee Camp in my Neighbourhood are available each year for both primary and secondary school students.
- Students will experience the journey of a refugee as they flee their home, experience life in a refugee camp, make a choice to come to Australia and start their new life.
- Tours are led by refugee and asylum seeker tour guides who share their personal stories and experiences.
- Interactive activities provide an opportunity for students to engage with refugee issues.
- The journey is linked to real refugee camp experiences of shelter, food, education, and your choices for resettlement.
- Active participation and involvement of students throughout the interactive tour.
- Debrief session after the tour for students to reflect on the experience.
- Explore themes of cultural diversity, and history of Australia’s multiculturalism in relation to asylum seekers and refugees.
CURRICULUM LINKS
This project has a range of curriculum links including HSIE, Geography, History, PDHPE, English, Legal Studies, Economics, Project Based Learning Program, Religious Studies and Social Justice. Cross curriculum priorities: Australia’s engagement in Asia and Sustainability.
