Cumberland Refugee Welcome Zone

On Thursday 29 August 2019, Cumberland Council signed and became a Refugee Welcome Zone.

A Refugee Council of Australia initiative, a Refugee Welcome Zone is established in the spirit of welcoming refugees into the community, upholding the human rights of refugees, demonstrating compassion for refugees and enhancing cultural and religious diversity.

Council delivers several community projects in partnership with local organisations to build a more inclusive, progressive and harmonious society. Refugee Camp in My Neighbourhood is one of these projects. This unique project, shaped by real life experiences of community members; co-designed and delivered with local organisations and Council, has created a space for such personal stories to be shared, reminding us to affirm our shared responsibilities to protect human rights.
