Celebration in My Neighbourhood – Saturday 1 August 2020

 Cumberland is home to many people who are either seeking asylum or are refugees.You are invited to join the Cumberland community for a Celebration in My Neighbourhood, a mini festival of food and culture hosted by the local refugee communities.

You can also take a two hour interactive tour, putting yourself in the shoes of someone who has journeyed to Australia as a refugee, led by tour guides from refugee backgrounds.

Discover and celebrate the resilience, success and contributions of people from refugee and asylum-seeking backgrounds to the Cumberland community and beyond.

About the event

The Celebration in My Neighbourhood event allows local community groups to showcase their food, cultural arts and activities.

  • Time:    Tours depart between 10:00 am to 4:00pm
  • Duration: Each tour takes approximately 2.5 hours
  • Cost:      Free
  • Location: Auburn Centre for Community, 44A Macquarie Road, Auburn

Bookings will open in July 2020.

Getting there:

The Community Centre is approx. 10 minutes walk from Auburn train station. Shuttle buses will be leaving the train station (road location) every 30 minutes.

Accessibility:

This event is accessible, however please note that there are a couple of sections of the tour which will be in small spaces. Staff will provide further information to visitors on site.
